Transferring
The machine tools of the type
Transfer machines are designed to manufacture identical workpieces in large series. A transfer machine can perform successive operations on the same workpiece. Equipped with multiple machining stations, it automatically transfers the workpieces from one station to another. Such a tool is characterized by the simultaneous functioning of all the machining stations, the accuracy of positioning of the workpiece in the machining station, the feeding and removal of workpieces via a dedicated station, as well as the existence of control stations for adjustment and replacement of defected tools.
Transfer machines working as from a bar, also exist; the first station cuts up the bar into plots which are then machined as one piece. The transfer could be circular or linear. In the first case, the forward movement in front of the machining heads corresponds to the rotation of the turret holding the workpieces, while the automatic feeding of workpieces is done manually, by an automated feeder through a vibrant system (bowl, linear, ..). Some models of rotating transfer machines are so elaborate and complete that they can be assimilated to completely real production lines. The sequential rectilinear transfer is characterized, as far as it is concerned, by the arrangement of machining stations in straight lines on both sides of the workpieces conveyor. This is in fact an endless chain equipped with supports holding the workpieces and scrolling them to the fixed machining stations mounted on slide ways. Whether they are
vertical or
horizontal transfer machines, these devices allow obtaining a very good repetition of operations performance, and at high rates thanks to the high scrolling speed of the workpieces. The digital control ensures an optimal management of the ongoing of the machining operations.
Hydromat,
Imoberdorf,
MikronHaesler,
Schaublin,
Wirth & Gruffat,
Eubama, MAG, and Mensi A. are among the major manufacturers of transfer machines. The
second-hand machines of this type passing through RDMO workshops are thoroughly checked in order to provide a level of performance close to the brand-new.
